Current trends specify the use of service-oriented, distributed computing for executing geoprocessing tasks. This is motivated by the availability of high speed networks, distributed data sets, high computation cost of geoprocessing tasks, increase in geoprocessing application requirements, server capabilities and limitations, and several more. However, it turns out that it is difficult to find a means of dynamically composing services efficiently using the resource characteristics of a set of heterogeneous servers. Therefore, in addressing these issues with respect to multi-dimensional raster data processing, we propose a query based approach using Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) Web Coverage Processing Service (WCPS) standard. Hence, a server, after receiving a WCPS query request, can automatically extract portions of the query that are best resolved locally, distribute other requested parts to other suitable servers, re-collect results and package them. |
